From our base in Kardamili, we are currently planning two point to point walk tours with full minibus back-up. The initial route recce has been scheduled for April 2008. All luggage apart from day packs will be moved from the previous night’s accommodation independently of the walk group. The programmes will be offered on both a guided and self-guided basis. The current list of single centre walks will be expanded in 2008.
Trek to Tenaro. This 10-day linear walk starts from Sotirianika (30 minutes north of Kardamili) ending at the bottom of the peninsular at Cape Tenaro. The route largely follows the western coast of the middle finger of the Peloponnese. Cape Tenaro is the most southerly point in Europe and a fitting end to a week’s walking. Highlights of the tour will be visiting Europe’s largest underground caves at Dirou Pirgos and Vathia – a partially restored Byzantine tower village. The fires of September 2007 particularly around Oitylo mean that a certain amount of re-routing may be necessary in 2008.
E4 European Path. This is a 7-day linear coast to coast trek. Starting from Kardamili we will climb up to the trailhead in the Vasiliki Forest at a height of 1590 metres. We then follow the established E4 route, initially along the ridge of the imposing Taygetos Mountains before descending to the Eastern coast at the port of Gythion. This is an old established walking route offering magnificent views and a chance to explore off the beaten path.
Multi-Activities Centre. In conjunction with local colleagues we are planning an outward bound centre. The River Nethonas and Neda Gorge offer a largely undeveloped opportunity to promote water and mountain sports including; canyoning, rafting, canoeing, sea-kayaking, horse riding, mountain biking and climbing. We are in talks with the Greek Tourist Board for the initial licence application.
